What is doping?

Fig(1)

It is true that win-or-lose matters a lot in competitive sports. There may be someone who wants to win too strongly and use an unfair means. Doping is abuse of medical knowlege and carrying out illegal and unnatural things which gives the athlete advantage to win. In many cases doping is use of special drug which enhance the competitive ability more than it actually is. For the athletes who is training seriously, doping is nothing but cheating in sports.

In the competitive sports people praise the winner and clap hands even for the loser because the athletes got through the hard training and fairly played under certain rules. The society treats the athlete as a person of genuine humanity and sociality because of their seriousness and efforts to achieve the goals. If the chieting with drugs is accepted in the competitive sports, winning has no meaning and the competition is nothing but a spectacle. Doping is bad because it firstly decays the soundness of sport events, lowers the value of sport activities and spoils the sportsmanship. Of course the drugs may give physical damage to the athletes. From the medical stand point, drugs always have side effects and a healthy athlete should not use any drugs unless he/she is sick.

The doping control aims at preventing doping so that serious athletes can achieve fair result. In every international major competition like the Olympic games doping controle is administered. Among all the athletes in the competition some are randomly selected as samples. After the competition the urine of the sample athletes are examined and checked if they have any illegal substance. Sometimes their blood is also examined. If illegal substance is found, they are disqualified and their record is deleted. Depending on the illegal substance found in the test, they may be imposed a penalty of grounding for a certain period.

The results of doping testing is sometimes fatal to the athletic carrier so the doping testing is strictly supervised. For example, after the announcement that he/she is sampled the athlete is escorted to the testing room by a guard. The guard watches the athlete from cheating and also prevents athlete from being given illegal substance.

Some people use steroid only during the training period but stop using it before the competition. So the spot doping testing is sometimes organized outside of the competition site. The inspector may suddenly visit the training spot without preannouncement and check the athlete.
